Komatsu finalized its strategic acquisition of GHH Group GmbH

Komatsu Ltd. has finalized its acquisition of GHH Group GmbH, a prominent manufacturer of underground mining, tunneling, and special civil engineering equipment based in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. This strategic move, announced on December 20, 2022, aims to enhance Komatsu’s capabilities in the underground mining sector by integrating GHH’s extensive product portfolio and operational facilities.

GHH Group, established in the 1960s and a part of the Schmidt Kranz Group, specializes in loaders and articulated dump trucks tailored for mid-seam mass mining, narrow vein, and low-profile mining operations. The acquisition includes GHH’s factories and facilities in Europe, South Africa, India, and Chile, which will bolster Komatsu’s production and service capabilities globally.

Peter Salditt, President and CEO of Komatsu Mining Corp., highlighted the acquisition as a significant opportunity to accelerate product development and expand Komatsu’s underground mining equipment offerings. He emphasized that the integration of GHH’s facilities and team would facilitate better service for customers and extend the reach of Komatsu’s products into new markets.
